Bridging the Gap in Middle School Science with Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis

Presenter: Michael Dixon, Dewey Elementary School of Excellence

This session aims to equip middle school teachers with strategies for delivering engaging complex labs on topics like Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration, enhancing student comprehension and enthusiasm for science. Participants will understand the lab's principles, objectives, and procedures, enabling confident guidance of students through the experiment. Additionally, they will gain insight into the scaffolded approach used, aligned with middle school standards, to make complex concepts accessible. This includes identifying key scaffolding techniques supporting student learning and engagement. Ultimately, participants will leave ready to independently facilitate the lab, fostering a deeper understanding of science in their classrooms.
