Science Talks

Let’s learn about science from the experts (virtually)!

We've heard over and over from teachers that they love hearing about cutting edge research because it reinvigorates their love for scienece. To keep that passion going, once a month we will invite a scientist or educational researcher to speak with us about something from their field. A short talk will be followed with Q&A.

1 CEU earned per hour of meeting.

Guest Lecturers:

Dr. Miray Tekkumru Kisay, Assistant Professor, Florida State University

Josh Paschedag, High School Science Specialist, Chicago Public Schools

How do you know a lesson or activity is challenging enough for your students? What does challenging mean in an era in which students can look up any and all facts on devices in their pockets? Dr. Tekkumru Kisa and Josh Paschedag discuss how to use the Task Analysis Guide in Science to assess the quality of cognitive demand and integration of the NGSS 3 Dimensions in classroom tasks. This easy-to-use tool can also point the way to simple changes that will keep your activities cognitively demanding.
