Baxter Symposium Session

Identifying Social Justice Issues

Presenter: Dr. Daniel Morales-Doyle, University of Illinois Chicago

Participants in this session will work on identifying social justice science issues (SJSI) that may become the basis for curriculum. SJSI are themes that capture an intersection of scientific phenomena and community concerns or aspirations. This workshop is an extension of Morales-Doyle’s keynote with an emphasis on teachers thinking about their own school and community contexts and dialoguing with colleagues in the room. Teachers may take initial ideas that emerge from this workshop back to these contexts to further define and refine in dialogue with students and community members as they plan towards youth participatory science projects next school year.
