Teaching about Proteins using Biotechnology

USING HANDS-ON LABS TO EXPLORE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION

June 5, 2017

Lindblom Math & Science Academy

Time: 8:30am - 3:30pm

Facilitator: Mary Clark (Vernon Hills High School)

Bring the central dogma to life with labs exploring chromatography, protein modeling, and SDS-PAGE! Under the guidance of experienced high school teachers and Northwestern University scientists, teachers will experience lab activities like:

  • Comparative Proteomics
  • Bradford Assay
  • GFP Chromotography
  • Mini Toobers and Fold-It
  • GFP SDS-PAGE

Teachers are trained in multiple lab activities and earn access to free lab materials and loaner equipment through the Baxter Box program.

Participants earn 7 CPDUs.

This workshop is presented in conjunction with the Chicago Public Schools Department of Science for CPS teachers. Substitute coverage will be made available for CPS teachers.

Registration will open for CPS teachers in early May through the Learning Hub.
